I can see it now…
Five guys sittin’ around a big mahogany conference table on the top floor, corner office of some building, in Big City, Anywhere, with their company name on it.
There they are smoking fat cigars from Cuba in their Brooks Brother’s suits, drinking Johnny Walker Blue neat from crystal rocks glasses and talkin’ about what it’s like to be King.
I see them all laughing about how smart they are while smoke swirls overhead in white musty clouds.
These guys are dead.
Their companies are dead.
The way they did business is dead.
The victims are stacking up like Tetris cubes at the bottom of their admin assistant’s PC
Now don’t get me wrong. I’m not against big business. I love to see profits made and I love to make profits.
In fact I’m not against smoking a fine cigar and sharing a glass of Johnny Walker Blue with my friends.
But…
…my contention is that we are sick of buying from stuffy, formal and impersonal corporations and yearn to have relationships with those we do business with.
We are leaving Market Street heading back to Main Street.
The old methods are dead and the companies that don’t make the change are dead too.
The good news is that the shift that is taking place puts the small business man in perfect position to capitalize.
We are fast approaching a level playing field where competing with the big guys is not only possible but plausible.
We understand that people buy from who they know, like and trust and the small agile business person is in a perfect position to create a system and process to genuinely earn a big piece of any niche they want to control.
Small teams of smart, quick, action driven marketers are the future of business in America. These teams could be in large companies or working at a secluded table in the corner coffee shop.
How are WE going to win?
YOU, Inc. Business Model Is The Answer
The You, Inc. business model is the antithesis of corporate American business.
It’s about making the shift from impersonal to personal, from distant to connected and from vilified to having loyal and dedicated customers/friends.
You, Inc. is about building your business around you as a person instead of just another company selling engine blocks, insurance or plumbing.
It’s about selling yourself as a leader and trusted adviser, someone who has real value to offer your customers.
When people know, like and trust you you’ll stand out from the crowd and relationships with them will grow strong.
This model is about serving other people, solving their problems and earning the right to sell to them and earning the right to receive referrals from them.
It’s about creating value and delivering that value.
To make the You, Inc. business model work for you you’ll need to get smart and agile
Here’s a quick list of some of the things you’ll need to do or understand:
- What the market wants from your type of business (Market Research)
- Dissect your competitors and understanding the 4 major gaps in their businesses. (Marketing, Sales Funnel, Content and Advertising)
- Creating your persona both via the web and traditional methods
- Aligning yourself with or obtaining knowledge of marketing methods in multiple media (Web, Print, Social, Referral etc.)
- Value creation
You, Inc. is the future of American business
It’s time we start giving more value and creating the solid foundation required for real success.
